East Dover Baptist Church
Pastor McIntyre was raised in southern California and attended a Presbyterian church. During membership classes, his pastor explained how Jesus died for his sins and rose again so that he could have new life. It was then that Pastor McIntyre put his faith in Christ.
In school Pastor McIntyre studied trombone and was very active in the music department, both in various bands and vocal groups. He continued his musical studies in college until the Army drafted him. After his Army duty, he continued his musical studies at Philadelphia Musical Academy, where he met his wife, Barbara, a double bass major.
Upon graduation they both played with the Delaware Symphony. It was during this period that he sensed God calling him into ministry and there was only one place he wanted to go - where Dr. Howard Hendricks taught. Fortunately he was accepted at Dallas Theological Seminary and six years later Pastor McIntyre graduated with a Master of Theology and Barb with a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies.
After graduation their first church was in rural Oklahoma. This is where their only child, Bryan, was born. The local junior college hired them as adjunct music faculty and they enjoyed using their musical talents teaching and playing in the pit orchestra for the yearly plays. Pastor McIntyre also was the local library director.
After nine years in OK, Barb's mother in PA needed some care, so we moved in with her. A friend of hers said her church was looking for a pastor and turned our name in. Within 3 months Pastor McIntyre was the new Pastor. We were there for 12 years. But then with a changing neighborhood, the church made the decision to close and sold the building to a Russian church.
That began a 6 year search for a new church. After a long wait, God led us to East Dover Baptist Church. It is everything we hoped for. We love this area and the people here are wonderful. We hope that you will join us in worship. We have an awesome God who wants to have a relationship with you.
Pastor Robert A. McIntyre, Jr.
